What Tests Do We Offer?
We offer 3 types of fire alarm testing, all signed off & certificated by fully qualified fire alarm inspectors.
50% test - this should be performed at a minimum of every 6 months & includes inspection of your fire alarm panel & testing the functionality of around 50% of your fire alarm system, that's detectors like smoke alarms, heat detectors, manual call points & sounders.
Also, reviewing your fire alarm logbook to assess the ongoing capability of your fire alarm system.
100% test - this should be performed at a minimum of every 12 months & includes everything from the 50% test but applies to all the inter fire alarm system.
Special inspection - the special inspection involves testing not only the fixed equipment within the fire alarm system like the 100% test but the fixed wiring as well; this includes among other tests taking insulation resistance & continuity readings.
The special inspection also includes a look at the overall poisoning of equipment like detectors & sounders while also making judgements of the existing fire alarm system against the fire alarm category of the property.
What Fire Alarm Tests Should You Complete Yourself?
Manual call point test - testing call points should be completed weekly, rotating the call point that is tested each week.
Checking your fire panel status - this should be completed regularly, every day at the minimum. Generally, you're looking for any indicators of a fault in the system.
Take note - noticing anything that doesn't look right i.e. a detector damaged or a neon not indicated.
Log book, everything goes in the log book. This applies to the fire alarm inspector & the user.
How Often Should Fire Alarm Inspector Tests Be Performed?
50% test - minimum of every 6 months.
100% test - minimum of every 12 months, however, this doesn't remove the need for the 50% test every 6 months.
Special inspection - is only for certain circumstances; at the request of the customer, if there's reason to believe there may be issues with the existing fixed wiring in the fire alarm system or if a system is being taken on by a new fire alarm inspector for regular testing services.
Who Needs A Fire Alarm Test Certificate?
Fire alarm testing is the process of testing a fire alarm system to ensure that it is working properly.
The test includes identifying any faults in the system and correcting them before they become a problem.
So in short it's recommended for any property, however, it is often a requirement legally or for insurance purposes that in date fire alarm test certificates are kept to prove proper maintenance of the system. This mostly applies to businesses but also landlords & even private homes can have inspection requirements placed on them.
Other than scheduled fire alarm testing you may have had a new fire alarm system installed, you may be converting to an alternative type of detector, or you may be upgrading your current system.
